
A 70-year-old foreign national has died after drowning at Zoco del Negro, Playa de Arinaga, in the municipality of Agüimes, Gran Canaria. The incident occurred on March 10, 2025, at 12:03 PM.
Emergency services were alerted after a call was received by the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, reporting that a swimmer had been rescued from the sea showing signs of drowning. In response, CECOES immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the scene.
The Spanish Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) mobilized a medicalized ambulance and a basic life support ambulance. Additionally, a doctor and nurse from the Arinaga Health Center, along with firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium and local police, were deployed to assist.
Upon arrival, medical personnel found the victim in cardiac arrest and attempted both basic and advanced resuscitation procedures. Despite their efforts, they were unable to revive him, and SUC staff confirmed his death at the scene.
Local police escorted the doctor and nurse to the site and later secured the body until judicial authorities arrived. They also initiated the necessary legal proceedings related to the incident.
