The Maxorata Pimentón Curado cheese has won the first prize for the category of cured goat cheeses in the 11th edition of the GourmetQuesos Championship, held at Madrid Gourmet Show.
In addition, the Smoked Tofio Tierno, also produced in Fuerteventura, has obtained the third prize in the category of smoked cheeses.
These are also the only types of cheeses from the Canary Islands that have received an award in this year's contest.
The Gourmet Cheese Championship is considered the most important event of its kind organized in Spain, as the number of cheeses in the competition has grown every year since its start, with more than 800 types of cheese products being present at the 2021 edition.
The samples are blindly tasted by a panel of 60 judges that includes professionals from all sectors of the cheese industry: technicians, cheese masters, store managers, bloggers, food journalists, chefs, department store managers, and restaurant managers.
Maxorata Pimenton Curado is a type of semi-soft cured cheese from Fuerteventura, produced from pasteurized goat milk and aged for a minimum of 4 months.
