A new cash payment system for renting sun loungers and umbrellas has been launched on several popular beaches in the municipality of Mogán, like Puerto Rico, Puerto de Mogán, and El Perchel. The initiative, spearheaded by the Mogán City Council, is aimed at improving convenience for beachgoers, especially those who prefer to pay in cash.

The new system, which went into effect on Friday, April 11, is currently available on the beaches of El Perchel, Puerto Rico, and Playa de Mogán. Managed by the municipal company Gestiona Mogán, the setup includes payment totems—machines similar in appearance and function to parking meters. Visitors simply select the service they want, pay the indicated amount in cash, and receive a printed receipt to retain during their stay.

In addition to the totems, beach attendants are now equipped with portable card payment terminals, allowing users to pay by credit or debit card as well.

Beaches Councilor Willy García visited El Perchel Beach on Monday morning to inspect the new system. He was accompanied by Gestiona Mogán Operational Coordinator Airam Medina and staff from the municipal beach services team.

“We continue working to improve the services on our beaches. Providing flexible and convenient payment options for both our visitors and residents is a key priority,” García stated. He explained that the initial rollout is focused on the busier beaches, with further expansion depending on how well the system performs.

García also highlighted the motivation behind introducing the new method: “Until now, payments could only be made via POS terminals for security reasons. However, many beachgoers have expressed a desire to pay in cash. After evaluating several options, we found a secure way to meet that demand.”

The Mogán City Council will monitor the system’s success before considering implementation across other municipally managed beaches, including those in Arguineguín.
