Local authorities in Mogán have intensified surveillance along the town’s beaches and coastline this summer, targeting activities such as smoking, drug use, illegal camping, and littering. Since July, the Local Police have issued more than 100 fines for these offences.
The operation, coordinated between the Local Police and the municipal departments of Public Safety and Beaches, involves both plainclothes officers and the UDRON drone unit. Acting police chief Marcos Domínguez explained that the drones patrol beaches and coastal areas at various times and days, relaying any suspected violations to officers on the ground, who then issue the corresponding citations.
Smoking and drug use are prohibited on all beaches within Mogán’s municipal boundaries, as are the presence of animals and unauthorized camping. These rules are laid out in the municipality’s beach use and coastal regulations, as well as its public safety and coexistence bylaws.
Fines for violations are steep: €225 for smoking, €900 for discarding a cigarette butt, €225 for bringing dogs or other animals onto the beach, €450 for illegal camping, and €700 for drug use. Domínguez urged residents and visitors to respect the rules, noting that all prohibitions are clearly posted on beach signage.
