The Government of the Canary Islands announced yesterday that starting from December 1 national passengers entering the Canary Islands from other communities in Spain, by air or sea, will need to show either the COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a diagnostic test of negative active infection or the certificate of having surpassed the disease less than 6 months before the date of arrival.

This measure which was first launched on December 18, 2020, and ended on September 30, 2021, constitutes a necessary tool to continue with the control and containment of imported cases of coronavirus in travelers from other parts of Spain.

This requirement will be again in effect starting from December 1, 2021.

Children under 12 are exempt from having to show a negative test result in order to travel to the Canary Islands.

The Canary Islands are expecting a large number of visitors this winter, so they are putting in place various measures to keep the number of new infections under control, so as not to collapse the medical system.
