The Canary Islands emergency coordinating center, reported last night at 9:15 p.m. (local time) that a new eruptive mouth has appeared in Tacande, in the municipality of El Paso.

This new eruptive mouth is located 900 meters away from the main one, which brought on the preventive eviction of the residents of Tacande who live close to the area, in the municipality of El Paso.

The movement of the lava slowed down yesterday, which delayed its arrival to the sea after it was previously estimated that it would get to the coast by last evening. However, the director of the Canary Islands Volcanic Risk Prevention Plan, Pevolca, Miguel Ángel Morcuende,  said this does not mean that the eruption has decreased its pace.

Shortly after the new eruptive mouth had appeared, an earthquake of 3.8 magnitude points took place, with an epicenter in the southeast of the municipality of Tazacorte, according to Spain's National Geographic Institute. According to the Institute of Volcanology of the Canary Islands (Involcan), the magnitude of this new earthquake was 4.1 and was very superficial.

Up until last night, more than 5,500 people had to be evacuated from their homes, but this number grew last night after the authorities also decided that the evacuation should be extended to Tacande, after the new eruptive mouth appeared.
