New natural pool in Arguineguin, Gran Canaria

The town of Arguineguín enjoys from this Friday a completely rehabilitated recreation area and equipped with new services, El Perchel beach.

The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, have inaugurated this public space on the Mogan coast where 1,859.194 euros have been invested, 1,469,268 euros coming from the Department directed by Castilla and 389,926 euros from the Mogán City Council.

For Bueno, this project is an example of what is possible to achieve with collaboration between public administrations. For the Municipal Council, it was first necessary to obtain the concession of 20,170 square meters of surface area from the Demarcation of Coasts of the Canary Islands, an event that occurred in 2018, and for its materialization, it has had the financial support of the Regional Government.

"I appreciate the involvement of the Ministry of Tourism both in this and in other projects that we have underway," he said, referring to the reform of the Nicolás Quesada park and the conditioning of the margins of the GC-500 at the entrance to Arguineguín. “Mogán is an economic engine and a key tourist destination in Gran Canaria and the archipelago, so it is essential to join efforts to maintain its quality and leadership”, she pointed out.

Likewise, referring to El Perchel, she assured that its renewed image and new services will be "an attraction both for tourists and for the residents alike", which will be "an impulse to the commercial area of the lower area of Arguineguín".

The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce pointed out that "this action, together with many others that the Ministry of Tourism is carrying out in all the municipalities of the Canary Islands, has as its ultimate goal that the Canary Islands destination become a more attractive tourist enclave if possible, due to its level of excellence, with a balanced, sustainable and responsible relationship between the needs of tourists and that of residents”.

Bueno and Castilla were accompanied by the Minister of Tourism of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, who has expressed the commitment of the Cabildo to collaborate with 460,000 euros that will be used for the second phase of improvements to the beach environment.

Playa El Perchel facilties

El Perchel beach now has a 440-meter promenade with grandstands overlooking the bay and different recreational areas, also newly created.

Next to the promenade, equipped with solar lamps and pergolas that provide shade for the people who walk along it, there is a restaurant and toilets with a roofed terrace – whose exploitation will soon be put out to tender next to the one on the beach of La Lajilla –, a playground with shaded areas, as well as the rescue module with toilets. There is also a point of access to the sea for people with disabilities.

The beach has a total surface area of 5,337 square meters and there's also the potential for the development of sports activities on the same beach, which is yet to be determined. On the right-hand side, the existing natural pool has been remodeled and is currently much more comfortable and totally safe for users.

The rehabilitation of El Perchel joins other actions already carried out in Arguineguín for the recovery of the seafront, such as the first phase of the promenade that links the seaside town, from the Costa Alegre beach area, with Anfi del Mar.
