The municipality of Pájara has reaffirmed its position as a leader in coastal management and environmental quality, securing four Blue Flag awards for its beaches in the 2025 edition of the prestigious international program.

Morro Jable, El Matorral, Butihondo, and Costa Calma beaches have once again been recognized for their excellence in water quality, safety, environmental management, and public services.

This recognition, granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), places Pájara among the top three municipalities in the Canary Islands to hold four Blue Flags — a symbol of its dedication to sustainable tourism and well-maintained coastal spaces.

Raimundo Dacosta, Pájara’s Councillor for Beaches, emphasized the collective effort behind the achievement: “We’ve invested in accessibility, cleanliness, safety, and service improvements. Our beaches are a source of pride for the entire community, and we remain committed to maintaining their high standards.”

Mayor Alejandro Jorge echoed this sentiment, highlighting the role of beaches in the municipality’s tourism appeal. “Our coastline is one of our greatest assets. This recognition strengthens our commitment to an environmentally respectful tourism model and motivates us to continue improving our natural spaces.”

Recent initiatives by the local council include the upgrade of informational signage across beach areas, improving access to key information for both residents and visitors. Additionally, safety measures have been enhanced through expanded surveillance equipment, ensuring quicker emergency response and better protection for beachgoers and staff.

With these ongoing efforts, Pájara continues to set the standard for sustainable beach management in the Canary Islands.
