A tragic accident occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 3:28 p.m., when a male paraglider lost his life after falling into the sea near the natural swimming pools of Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 received an alert from a lifeguard who witnessed the paraglider crashing into the water. Emergency response teams were immediately mobilized to the scene.
Responders included a rescue helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), firefighters from Tenerife, the Local and National Police, the Civil Guard, Maritime Rescue services, and medical personnel from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), including both a basic life support and an advanced life support ambulance.
Local police officers were the first to reach the victim, initiating resuscitation efforts. Firefighters soon arrived to assist and continued CPR until the arrival of the GES helicopter. The paraglider was airlifted from the water with the help of firefighters and transported to the dock area of Puerto de la Cruz, where medical teams continued both basic and advanced life support efforts. Unfortunately, all attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maritime Rescue deployed a jet ski in an attempt to retrieve the paraglider’s equipment, though the paraglider itself ultimately drifted away. The Civil Guard has taken charge of the investigation.
