For the third time in a decade, the winner of NASA's contest Tournament Earth, is an image from the Canary Islands, this time showing the volcanic eruption on La Palma.
In 2013, people who voted chose the El Hierro submarine eruption as the winner of NASA's first tournament and in 2014, just one year later, an image of sunglint, winds, and waves (Trailing the Canaries) was voted again as the winner.
In the current edition, the image showing the volcanic eruption on La Palma has won in the final over a photo of the Kalahari desert.
The winning photo was taken on October 4 by astronaut Joshua Stevens aboard the International Space Station.
You can see all the photos from the competition on the Tournament Earth page on NASA's Earth Observatory website.
