Puerto del Rosario is Fuerteventura's capital, so the carnival, which lasts for over 2 weeks each year, is usually attended mostly by residents and locals, not tourists.
Carnival season is a great time to visit Fuerteventura and you should participate in this event if you want to experience a Spanish festival outside the tourist resorts.
The residents of Puerto del Rosario have chosen 'The Underwater World' as an allegory for Carnival 2024 through a vote carried out on the municipal website.
The acting mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, thanked the neighbors for their participation in choosing the allegory for the next carnivals. “The involvement of citizens is a reflection of the relevance that our carnival acquires each year, growing in participation and attracting numerous carnival-goers from all the islands, who do not hesitate to travel to Puerto del Rosario to enjoy the uniqueness of our festival,” he explained.
In this sense, the acting Councilor for Celebrations, David Perdomo, stated that this vote “represents the starting signal for the next carnivals that will once again fill the streets of Puerto del Rosario with mascaritas and carnival groups enjoying the most massive festivities in the capital".
The winning proposal obtained 42% of the votes, a total of 277, closely followed by 'A cartoon carnival' with 263 votes (40%) and much further away by the third option 'Cultures of the world', which only he obtained 125 votes (19%).
