As the year draws to a close, it’s important to take note of the remaining public holidays in the Canary Islands for 2024.

While most holidays have already passed, a few significant ones remain, spanning national, regional, and island levels. However, there’s a small disappointment—one key holiday that created a long weekend in 2023 will not be repeated this year.

The Ministry of Tourism and Employment, led by Jéssica de León, has confirmed the upcoming non-working days, in line with national legislation. These holidays are considered paid and non-recoverable:

National Holidays

  • October 12: National Day of Spain
  • November 1: All Saints' Day
  • December 6: Constitution Day
  • December 25: Christmas Day

One change to note this year is that December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, falls on a Sunday and will not be compensated with a day off. This means the extra long weekend many enjoyed in 2023 will not happen in 2024.

Island-Specific Holidays

  • September 16: Our Lady of the Volcanoes (Lanzarote and La Graciosa)
  • September 20: Our Lady of La Peña (Fuerteventura)
  • September 24: Our Lady of Los Reyes (El Hierro)
  • October 7: Our Lady of Guadalupe (La Gomera)
