Ryanair to reopen bases in Tenerife and Lanzarote in 2023

Ryanair has announced that in March 2023 it will reopen its bases in Lanzarote and Tenerife South, which got closed along with the bases the company had in Gran Canaria and Girona.

Eddie Wilson, Ryanair DAC's CEO, announced this news in a press conference where he was accompanied by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, also mentioned that Ryanair will have 70 routes connecting with the islands, 6 of them new, with 520 weekly flights, meaning a 10% increase. According to Wilson, the company is also planning to open bases in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma as well in the future.

3 new routes will be launched in connection with Tenerife and 3 new routes with Lanzarote, while the total number of tourists Ryanair brings to the archipelago is over 2 million in a year.

On the possibility of reopening the flights with La Palma, which ended in October, Wilson has indicated that "it is not on the table for now" although the company is open to a discussion with Promotur (the company in charge of tourism promotion for the Canary Islands) since Ryanair's representatives are aware of the impact that the volcanic eruption had caused in La Palma, so the island now urgently needs to reactivate its tourist market.
