The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has announced that the authorities, together with the groups participating in the carnival, have decided to postpone the celebration of events until summer, most likely until the month of June.
This decision was not taken lightly, but Tenerife is currently at Alert Level 4, the maximum level of alerts in the Canary Islands, so in this uncertain situation in regards to the pandemic it would be difficult to organize safely such a big event.
"Everything seems to indicate that, as the months go by, conditions may be much more favorable for the celebration of events like the Carnival, favoring a more adequate preparation in order to rise to its position as an Event of International Tourist Interest", the mayo added also that “this change of dates is unprecedented in the history of our Festival, but the experience of other popular events of this magnitude, such as the Fallas de Valencia, last year, or this year the Cádiz Carnival, which has already been announced for the same month of June, makes us consider its viability”.
Some dates which are probable for the celebration of the 2022 carnival in Santa Cruz are between June 4 and June 26, but we will announce when they are 100% confirmed.
