Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) announced on Sunday that access roads to Teide National Park have been closed due to dangerous conditions caused by snow and ice accumulation, which pose significant risks to drivers.
The affected roads include the TF-21 (access via La Orotava), the TF-24 (access via La Esperanza), and the TF-38 (access via Chío). The closures will remain in place until conditions improve and the roads are deemed safe for travel, according to an official statement from the Cabildo.
Rosa Dávila, president of the Tenerife Island Council, remarked on the wintry landscape, stating, "This second day of winter has left Teide beautifully snow-capped—a true Christmas gift for all Tenerife and Canary Islands residents. It’s a breathtaking sight that reminds us of the island’s unique beauty but also the importance of protecting it and acting responsibly."
Blanca Pérez, the councilor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, urged citizens to respect the restrictions and safety measures in place. "Our priority is ensuring everyone's safety. It is essential to follow the guidance of security personnel and avoid unnecessary trips to the area until the situation stabilizes," she emphasized.
