In 2023, Spain has obtained a total of 729 ' Blue Flags ' (627 beaches, 97 marinas and five tourist boats) that will be put in place from June and until next year. The Valencian Community is the leading community with the highest number of Blue Flag beaches.

Compared to 2022, Spain has obtained six more 'Blue Flags' for its beaches, while it maintains its worldwide leadership, which has been achieved in 1994. Currently, the Blue Flag beaches in Spain represent 15% of the total awards, followed by Greece and Turkey. This year there are 10 new beaches in Spain with this distinction and 22 that recovered their award.

In terms of marinas, Spain lost 6 Blue Flags in 2023, and it currently holds third place worldwide, behind the Netherlands and France. In 2023, 101 ports have been submitted (four less than last year), due to renovation and construction works that make it impossible to hope for the first place.

The Valencian Community continues to lead the number of 'Blue Flags' in Spain, with 153, followed by Andalusia, with 148 'Blue Flags', Galicia, with 125 badges, and Catalonia, with 120.

The rest of the communities according to the number of 'Blue Flags' awarded are: the Canary Islands (60), Baleares (42), Murcia (34), Asturias (15), Cantabria (11), Extremadura (10), País Vasco (4) , Melilla (4), Ceuta (2) and Madrid (1).

The Canary Islands currently have 56 Blue Flag beaches and 4 Blue Flag marinas, which is an increase of 2 beaches compared to 2022.

Unfortunately, the famous Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has lost its Blue Flag status, while other beaches in the south of Gran Canaria have regained their Blue Flag: Meloneras, Maspalomas and San Agustin.
