The Canary Islands are set to experience unsettled weather starting this Friday, March 28, with a mix of cloudy skies, heavy showers, and strong winds, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The forecast predicts mixed weather patterns, with varying conditions across the archipelago.
Rain and Strong Winds Expected
Northern areas of the mountainous islands will see light to moderate rainfall, while La Palma and El Hierro could experience heavy downpours in localized spots, particularly in the afternoon. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to remain stable, although slight drops may occur in mid-altitude and southern-facing mountain regions, especially in Tenerife and La Gomera. Santa Cruz de Tenerife will see temperatures ranging from 17°C to 22°C, while Valverde (El Hierro) will experience cooler conditions between 11°C and 14°C.
The wind will predominantly blow from the northeast but will become lighter and more variable in the morning. Over the ocean, northeast winds will reach force 4 to 6, generating rough seas before gradually calming later in the day. Swells from the north or northwest of 1 to 2 meters are expected, with occasional rain affecting coastal waters around La Palma, Tenerife, La Gomera, and Gran Canaria.
Potential for Light Dust Storms
Aemet has also indicated a likelihood of light haze in the eastern islands during the afternoon, possibly reducing visibility and affecting air quality.
