Strong wind alert continues in the Canary Islands this Sunday

The alert for strong winds and strong waves has been extended by Aemet for all day Saturday and most of Sunday as well, covering the whole province of Tenerife, as well as Gran Canaria.

Alerts in place for Sunday, February 20

Warning in force for maximum wind gusts which could surpass 70 km/h in La Palma (south, northwest and El Paso area), on the southeast and northwest slopes of La Gomera and El Hierro, on the southeast slope of Tenerife and on summits of Gran Canaria.

Forecast for Sunday, February 20

In the north of the mountainous islands, cloudy skies will be predominant, accompanied by generally weak rains, locally more intense. In the rest of the areas, cloudy intervals with a low probability of occasional light rains.

Temperatures are slightly dropping, with a more pronounced drop inland; at high altitudes in Tenerife and La Palma there are chances of frost.

The wind will blow from the northeast, with very strong gusts on the northwest and southeast slopes, as well as on exposed summits of the mountainous islands.

The wind alert will be in place until 12:00 pm on the islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro and until 6:00 pm in La Palma and Tenerife.
