The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has requested on Monday that the service of sunbeds and umbrellas on Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas be resumed, after being suspended since March 14, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The councilor has informed the company to restart activities as soon as possible, with the sole objective of continuing the services that have been provided to the general public.

For her part, the mayor Concepción Narváez, has stated that "it is a very important service for our beaches, for our tourists, who are demanding for the umbrellas and sunbeds to return". In addition, if the service will be resumed, the 41 workers who were hired by the company in charge will be removed from ERTE  (furlough).

The service will restart with around 1,500 sunbeds and 750 umbrellas which should be sufficient for the moment, but their number will be increased as the demand grows.
