The City Council of Teguise, led by Mayor Olivia Duque, has officially approved the construction of a new Lidl supermarket in Lanzarote.
The new Lidl store will be located between Calle Piteras and the cross street of Avenida Las Palmeras in Costa Teguise.
The technical department, managed by Councilor Rita Hernández, who oversees Urban Planning, Tourism, and Beaches, has completed the necessary municipal work to green-light the project. This includes both the urban development plans and the major construction permit required for the new retail space.
With the approval now in place, work can soon begin, adding another shopping option to Costa Teguise. The new store is expected to offer residents greater variety and more affordable options.
In addition to the Lidl project, the local government also approved licenses for five new single-family homes and six low-voltage electrical connections for various areas of the new development during the latest meeting.
Councilor Hernández highlighted that this area is set for further development, including the expansion of the local health center and the construction of a new school. "These improvements will significantly boost the quality of life for our residents," she said.
Mayor Olivia Duque also mentioned that over €1 million was set aside for the urban development of the area, emphasizing that this plan has long been a priority. "This project is essential for the new school in Costa Teguise and aligns with our commitment to enhancing the local economy and offering competitive prices for both residents and visitors," she added.
Mayor Duque praised the work of the municipal staff and the Urban Planning Office, which has helped drive both the local economy and social initiatives in Costa Teguise over the past few years. The arrival of Lidl, along with other developments, signals a bright future for the area, with more choices and improvements for all.
