Tenerife beaches reopen after swimming was prohibited due to presence of microalgae

Most of the beaches in Tenerife affected by the presence of microalgae have been reopened today, as announced by the local city councils.

Last week, a bloom of cyanobacteria was detected in the water on several beaches in Tenerife in the municipalities of Candelaria and Granadilla de Abona.

Today, Monday, September 5th, the City Council of Candelaria has announced that both beaches Los Guanches beach and the Punta Larga beach are now safe for swimming, after several controls conducted since last Friday. Swimming on these beaches was not actually prohibited during this time, although it was strongly advised against it.

As for the City Council in Granadilla de Abona, they have announced that Playa Grande in El Medano and El Chinchorro beach have now been reopened for the public, while on Playa La Tejita swimming remains prohibited until further analysis are conducted to establish if it's safe or not.
