The Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo) has announced the introduction of a new ecotax for access to Teide National Park trails, specifically affecting PNT 10 Telesforo Bravo and PNT 07 Montaña Blanca – La Rambleta.

The measure came into effect on 19 January 2026, and aims to regulate visitor numbers, protect the environment and improve the sustainability of Mount Teide, one of Tenerife’s most visited natural attractions.

Access fees will apply during specific time slots and will vary depending on the trail, day of the week and residency status of visitors. Reservations will continue to be managed exclusively through the official Tenerife ON booking platform.

How much will it cost to access Teide trails?

Under the new system, residents of Tenerife will continue to access the trails free of charge, while residents of the rest of the Canary Islands will pay reduced, symbolic fees. Non-residents will be charged higher rates, with prices ranging from €3 to €15, depending on the trail and day.

According to Cabildo president Rosa Dávila, the ecotax reflects “a firm commitment to the conservation of Teide National Park while ensuring free access for Tenerife residents.” She described the initiative as “a fair and balanced solution” that allows visitor access to be organised while safeguarding one of the island’s most valuable natural spaces.

PNT 10 Telesforo Bravo trail fees

For the PNT 10 Telesforo Bravo trail, access fees will apply between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

  • Residents of Tenerife: free access
  • Children under 14 (accompanied): free access
  • Residents of other Canary Islands: €6
  • Non-resident visitors: €15

PNT 07 Montaña Blanca – La Rambleta trail fees

Access to the PNT 07 Montaña Blanca – La Rambleta trail will also be regulated between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, with different prices for weekdays and weekends or public holidays.

Weekdays:

  • Residents of Tenerife: free
  • Residents of other Canary Islands: €3
  • Other visitors: €6

Weekends and public holidays:

  • Residents of Tenerife: free
  • Residents of other Canary Islands: €5
  • Non-resident visitors: €10

Why Tenerife is introducing the Teide ecotax

The island councillor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, explained that the new pricing and reservation system will help manage the park’s most environmentally sensitive routes by aligning visitor numbers with the area’s real carrying capacity.

She added that all revenue generated by the ecotax will be reinvested in environmental conservation, trail maintenance, visitor safety and overall experience quality, reinforcing a more responsible tourism model for Teide National Park.

How to book access to Teide trails

All visitors must book in advance via the Tenerife ON platform. During the reservation process, users must provide credit or debit card details and enter information for all participants.

Confirmed bookings:

  • Cannot be modified or cancelled
  • Are non-refundable, except in cases of trail closure due to weather, exceptional circumstances or if the Teide Cable Car is not operational

Refunds will not be issued if access is denied due to failure to meet the mandatory minimum equipment requirements, which are detailed on the Tenerife ON website.

Reservations can currently only be made through the Tenerife ON website, as the mobile app will temporarily not support bookings. New places are released every Monday at 7:00 am (Canary Islands time), with a rolling 28-day booking window. Users must be registered and validated to access the system.
