La Palma is one of the smaller Canary Islands, very different from the bigger islands like Tenerife or Gran Canaria in terms of scenery and tourism as well. La Palma is (fortunately) still untouched by mass tourism, as most visitors come here for an active holiday, to enjoy the amazing scenery and discover the island on foot.
Santa Cruz de La Palma is the capital of La Palma, also known as Isla Bonita, one of the smaller islands in the Canary Islands archipelago of Spain. Santa Cruz de La Palma is also the largest city on the island, with around 15,000 inhabitants.
La Palma is part of the Canary Islands and although they are situated very close to the coast of Africa, the islands are politically part of Spain. The island of La Palma is really small, with an area of 706 km2, which makes it the 5th largest island of all 7 in the archipelago.
