On September 9, 2024, at 6:19 p.m., a fatal traffic accident occurred on the TF-64 road between Granadilla and El Médano, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife. The collision involved a public bus and multiple vehicles, leading to the tragic death of one person and the injury of eight others.
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) reported that the deceased was a woman in her 60s, who was an occupant of one of the vehicles involved. Despite the prompt response of medical teams, her injuries were fatal.
Eight others were injured and transported to various medical centers, four of them who were passengers in some of the vehicles involved, as well as four bus passengers, who suffered minor injuries.
Emergency services, coordinated by the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES 1-1-2), responded immediately to the incident. The response team included three basic life support ambulances, one advanced ambulance, local police, and three fire service units from Tenerife.
Upon arrival, medical teams confirmed the death of the woman in one of the vehicles. Four other occupants of the same vehicle were trapped and had to be freed by firefighters. After receiving treatment for their injuries, they were taken to nearby hospitals.
The firefighters also assisted in removing the deceased from the vehicle. Meanwhile, the Civil Guard managed traffic and started an investigation into the accident.
