On Tuesday, May 6, a woman died following a drowning incident at the Faro de Maspalomas in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The emergency call was received at 13:58 by the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias y Seguridad (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands, reporting a woman found floating in the sea near the popular tourist area.

Upon receiving the alert, CECOES immediately activated a range of emergency services, including a medicalized helicopter and a basic life support ambulance from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC), as well as a medical team from the Maspalomas health center, local Red Cross beach rescue personnel, and both National and Local Police units.

Cruz Roja lifeguards reached the woman first, pulling her from the water and initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after confirming that she was in cardiac arrest. The medical helicopter landed near the Charca de Maspalomas, allowing SUC and primary care medical personnel to continue advanced resuscitation efforts.

Despite the rapid response and extensive efforts by the medical teams, the woman could not be revived, and her death was confirmed at the scene.

Local police assisted with securing the area, while the National Police took charge of the necessary legal procedures and formalities following the incident.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
