UK reintroduces 14 day quarantine on arrivals from Spain
The UK government has just announced that it will impose a 14-day quarantine on travellers arriving from Spain. The number of Covid-19 cases in Spain has been on the rising during the past days, especially in the regions of Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia on mainland Spain.
This measure came into effect from midnight July 26th and it will affect all travellers returning to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
According to the UK Government website:
From 27 July, the FCO advise against all non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks in the country.
This advice is based on evidence of increases in cases of COVID-19 in several regions, but particularly in Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia (which include the cities of Zaragoza, Pamplona and Barcelona).
The FCO is not advising those already travelling in Spain to leave at this time. Travellers should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect themselves and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus.
If you are returning from Spain you will be required to self-isolate on your return to the UK, but the FCO is not advising you to cut short your visit. You should contact your tour operator or airline if you have any questions about your return journey.
The Coronavirus situation in the Canary Islands is very different from the one on mainland Spain, as the majority of the recently confirmed cases from the illegal migrants who have arrives to the islands in the last days. All migrants coming from Africa are isolated and quarantined and they do not pose a threat as far as spreading the virus in the local community.
How do I know if my holiday is going ahead?
Individual flights & accommodation
If you booked your flights and accommodation individually, you need to sort out things separately. You should contact the airline to see if you can reschedule your flight and then you should see if you can cancel your accommodation or at least reschedule for a later date.

TUI holidays to the Balearic and Canary Islands departing on or before 16 August 2020 have been cancelled.
