A 64-year-old woman lost her life on Monday after being run over by a pickup truck on Playa del Inglés, a popular beach in the tourist area of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria. The tragic incident occurred as the victim was sunbathing near kiosk number 4, while her husband had gone for a swim.

The pickup, which was providing service to one of the beach kiosks, ran over the woman. According to initial reports, the 50-year-old driver—who has over a decade of experience navigating vehicles on the sand—did not realize he had hit someone.

Emergency services were quickly alerted by beachgoers. Officers from the Local Police's Citizen Security and Proximity Unit and rescue personnel from the Red Cross were among the first to respond, attempting to provide aid. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, medical teams could only confirm the woman's death. Other reports indicate she succumbed to her injuries in the ambulance before being transported to a medical center.

The emergency call was received at 12:30 p.m., notifying authorities of a woman needing urgent medical assistance after being struck by a vehicle on the beach. The Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.

The vehicle was not present at the scene of the incident when authorities arrived but was swiftly located. The driver, who reportedly remained unaware of the collision, was taken to a police station for questioning. Investigators are now tasked with determining whether the vehicle was operating within the designated timeframes and pathways permitted for kiosk services.

Under local regulations, vehicles servicing beach kiosks are allowed to operate during specific hours: from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for resupply and maintenance and from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for water evacuation. The use of these vehicles is otherwise restricted to minimize risks during peak visitor hours.
