A 60-year-old woman passed away this Friday at Sotavento Beach, located in the municipality of Pájara, Fuerteventura.

She was rescued from the sea by the helicopter of the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) while in cardiac arrest.

The Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received a call around 1:48 PM alerting them to the discovery of the swimmer in cardiac arrest.

The intervention of the GES helicopter was crucial due to the deceased being in a difficult-to-access area. She was evacuated to the Morro Jable helipad, where paramedics from a SUC medicalized ambulance could only confirm her death.

Civil Guard officers handled the necessary procedures and guarded the body until the judicial authority arrived. Local police also assisted with the emergency services.
