Cabildo offers an official statement regarding the bus crash in Gran Canaria

gran canaria bus company

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through its president, Antonio Morales, and the Councilor for Presidency and Sustainable Mobility, Teodoro Sosa, has shown solidarity with the victims of the Global bus accident in the San Telmo bus terminal. At the same time, they express their special support for the two seriously injured individuals and their families, while staying updated on their condition.

The Cabildo has maintained direct contact with the interurban transport company Global, which has initiated an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident and determine why the vehicle invaded the pedestrian zone of the station before crashing into one of the walls.

Similarly, the island's government indicates that protocols have been activated within the framework of the competencies of the Single Transport Authority of Gran Canaria (AUTGC) to carry out the necessary technical analysis of the accident, always in coordination with the company.

According to the data provided by Global, at 1:25 PM, a bus covering the route of line 229 between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the municipality of Teror crashed into one of the walls of the station at the beginning of its route.

As a result, a man who was in the pedestrian zone was injured and had to be transferred to the Doctor Negrín Hospital of Gran Canaria. Also due to the impact, a woman who was traveling in the front part of the vehicle fell in the area of the front access steps, becoming trapped, which required her extrication. After the rescue, she was transferred to the Insular Hospital of Gran Canaria.

Additionally, other passengers and the driver of the unit had to be treated for anxiety attacks, although no new hospitalizations were necessary. At this time, the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) is still finalizing its report on the number of affected individuals and their condition.

Finally, the president of the Cabildo appreciates the exemplary performance of the health services, firefighters, and security forces who assisted the victims of the incident, extending this recognition to the Global personnel who serve at the San Telmo Bus Station and the AUTGC.
