On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 14th, a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Canary Islands Government performed a daring rescue of an injured hiker in the Barranco del Infierno, located in the municipality of Adeje.

The hiker, a 50-year-old woman, suffered a fall resulting in a moderate injury to her lower limb. According to the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), she was initially assessed at the scene before being airlifted by the GES helicopter. She was then transported by a basic life support ambulance to the Hospital del Sur for further medical treatment.

The rescue operation was promptly activated following an alert received at 12:49 PM. The alert informed the CECOES 1-1-2 that the hiker had fallen and sustained an injury that immobilized her, preventing her from continuing her hike. In response, the CECOES 1-1-2 mobilized several emergency services, including:

  • GES rescue helicopter
  • Firefighters from the Tenerife Fire Consortium
  • SUC, who provided a basic life support ambulance
  • Local police officers

Thanks to the swift coordination and response of these emergency services, the injured hiker was efficiently rescued from the challenging terrain of Barranco del Infierno and received the necessary medical attention. This incident highlights the critical role of emergency services in ensuring the safety and well-being of hikers in the mountainous landscapes of the Canary Islands.
