The Council of Ministers will approve today the Royal Decree that ends the mandatory use of masks in health centers, hospitals, pharmacies and social health centers in Spain.

However, there will be a few exceptions, meaning that in some areas of hospitals, masks will continue to be mandatory, such as:  in hospital areas with critically ill and immunosuppressed patients, operating rooms, intensive care units, oncology areas and emergencies.

The new rule regarding masks will go into effect from the day when it will be published in the BOE, which is today, July 4th.

Although the elimination of the mandatory nature of masks in these environments had received the green light from the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System last month, it needed to be approved by the Council of Ministers.
