The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued yellow and orange alerts in the Canary Islands for the next three days due to the forecast of very strong wind gusts and coastal phenomena throughout the Archipelago.

Starting from 8:00 p.m. this Monday, Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria will be under a yellow wind warning due to northeast winds that will affect areas usually exposed to the trade winds, as well as mountain summits.

Maximum gusts of 80 kilometers per hour are expected, occasionally reaching over 90 km/h in the mountainous areas of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.

On Tuesday all Canary Islands will be under weather alerts

On Tuesday, the risk is extended to the entire Archipelago, with some islands upgraded to orange warnings and coastal phenomena added.

Orange alerts

In La Gomera and Gran Canaria (except for the north of the island), the wind warning will be upgraded to orange, and Lanzarote will also be placed under orange alert as well.

Maximum gusts of 90 km/h with northeast winds are expected, especially affecting the southeast slopes of Gran Canaria, southern interior areas of Lanzarote, and mountain summits of La Gomera and Gran Canaria.

Yellow warnings

Tenerife, El Hierro, and the north of Gran Canaria will remain under a yellow wind warning, while the yellow alert is also extended to La Palma and Fuerteventura.

Maximum gusts of 80 km/h from the northeast are expected, especially affecting the usual exposed areas. Occasionally, gusts of up to 90 km/h are possible in the El Paso area, Teno Point, and high mountain ranges of Tenerife and the extreme northwest of Gran Canaria.

Coastal phenomena

On Tuesday, the entire Archipelago will be under a yellow warning due to coastal phenomena: northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) in the west and southeast of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, southeast and later northwest of Tenerife.

Wednesday April 10th

On Wednesday, April 10th, the mountain summits of La Palma and La Gomera will be the only ones remaining under an active orange warning for maximum gusts of 90 km/h.

Tenerife, El Hierro, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote will be under a yellow wind warning with maximum gusts between 70 and 80 km/h until midday.

Warnings will be lifted in the north of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as well as in Fuerteventura.

The Archipelago will remain under a yellow coastal phenomena warning until midday on Wednesday.
