Young woman rescued from the sea in Ajuy, Fuerteventura, in serious condition

Last night, a 23-year-old woman was rescued from the ocean by the Helimer Maritime Rescue helicopter team, along with assistance from Cabildo Emergencies and the Local Police in the Ajuy caves area in Fuerteventura.

The area where the rescue took place had been closed off due to dangerous sea conditions.

At 7:48 p.m., on Saturday, the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 1 1 2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert informing them that two people were in trouble at sea and needed help to get out of the water.

  • A 23-year-old woman who, at the initial moment of assistance, presented with severe hypothermia, was rescued by the Helimer helicopter and transferred by medical ambulance from the SUC to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.
  • A 25-year-old male who, at the initial moment of assistance, presented minor abrasions and wounds, except for complications, assisted by SUC personnel in the area of ​​the incident.

The local police and nearby residents threw flotation devices and life vests to the woman in the water to keep her afloat until the Helimer Maritime Rescue helicopter arrived. After being rescued from the sea, she was attended by the emergency personnel and once stabilized, she was transferred in serious condition by medical ambulance to the hospital.
