ALDI has reached 13 supermarkets in the Canary Islands with the opening of its first store in Los Realejos, Tenerife.

The new store, which opened on Wednesday, is located on Los Cuartos Street and boasts over 1,300 square meters of sales space and a staff of 15. This marks the beginning of ALDI's planned expansion in the Canary Islands for 2024, with four new stores set to open throughout the year.

“We are very excited to continue bringing our purchasing model closer to more and more Canarian families and to continue demonstrating our commitment to the Islands,” said Álvaro de Armas, head of ALDI Expansion in the area, at the opening ceremony. “We continue to grow in the Canary Islands, as evidenced by the 163,000 customers we registered between January and March of this year, 13,000 more than in the same period in 2023,” added de Armas.

The Canary Islands remain a strategic area for ALDI, which plans to strengthen its presence with four new openings this year. Besides the new store in Los Realejos, ALDI will expand in Tenerife with a new store in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital, located in the historic Victoria tobacco factory and cinema. Another opening is planned for Sonnenland-Maspalomas in Gran Canaria in the coming months.

The new ALDI supermarket in Los Realejos will offer mainly own-brand products, with about 90% of its stock being private label items, and a significant portion of Canarian origin. Approximately 20% of ALDI’s assortment in the Canary Islands comes from over 50 local suppliers, providing more than 360 locally grown products.

The Los Realejos ALDI will be open from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
