Calima and yellow heat warning in the Canary Islands this week

Aemet has activated the yellow-level warnings for high temperatures starting from this Tuesday in the Canary Islands. The high temperatures will be caused by the arrival of an air mass from the Sahara that is already affecting the Peninsula.

Tenerife and Fuerteventura will be under a yellow warning this Tuesday, with temperatures reaching up to 34 ºC from 11:00 a.m.

In Gran Canaria, the yellow warning will also be in place this Tuesday from 11:00 a.m., as temperatures could go up to  36 ºC in the south of the island. 

In inland areas in the south of the rest of the islands, temperatures will reach 30  ºC to 32 ºC locally.

On Wednesday, Gran Canaria will be under an orange warning, with a forecast of temperatures of up to 37  ºC, while maximums in Tenerife will be around 34º, so the island will continue under a yellow warning.

Likewise, yellow warnings have been activated due to adverse coastal phenomena (Northeast wind from 50 to 61 km/h, force 7, on the southeast and west coasts, mainly offshore) since Tuesday in the south, east and west of Tenerife and Gran Canaria and, from Wednesday, also in El Hierro and the south and west of La Palma. These high temperatures will probably last until Friday or Saturday when temperatures could start to drop.
