Forest fire declared in Tenerife reaches Level 2 severity and leads to preventive evacuations

The forest fire that was declared last night in Tenerife affects the municipalities of Arafo and Candelaria.

  • Preventively, the eviction of Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña and Ajafona has been carried out.
  • The TF-24 highways, between Las Lagunetas and El Portillo, and the TF-523, Carretera Los Loros, are closed.

The forest fire was declared on Tuesday, August 15, at 11:36 p.m., on the TF-523, and it already affects the municipalities of Arafo and Candelaria. The fire has been elevated to level 2 of severity at the request of the Cabildo de Tenerife, so the Government of the Canary Islands has assumed the direction of the emergencs, in accordance with the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Attention due to Forest Fires in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA) and in attention to its dimensions and dynamics.

Preventively, the evacuation of Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña and Ajafona has been carried out and the closure of the TF-24 highways, between Las Lagunetas and El Portillo and the TF-523, Carretera Los Loros, has been decreed.

Until now, land resources from the Cabildo de Tenerife, members of the Consortium of Firefighters and volunteer firefighters from Güímar and La Laguna have been involved. First thing in the morning, different aerial means of the Government of the Canary Islands and the State will be incorporated into the extinction tasks.
