Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria under red alert, as temperatures could reach 40ºC
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated the warnings activated in regard to the heatwave in the Canary Islands. Specifically, it has established new red notices for Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and parts of La Palma, in addition to extending orange notices to areas of Tenerife and La Palma as well.
Aemet has activated the Maximum Alert for the island of Gran Canaria, in areas of high altitudes, east, south and west parts, as well as for the island of Fuerteventura, the island of Lanzarote and the island of La Palma (summit areas and its western slope).
According to Aemet, in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, the areas most affected by the high temperatures will be those inland and southern areas, where temperatures of up to 40 ºC are expected. In Gran Canaria, temperatures may exceed 43 ºC, and it is likely that these will extend to coastal areas. In all cases, the minimum temperatures will be high, above 30 ºC.
