High temperature alerts activated in the Canary Islands this week
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued a yellow warning for Tuesday for the islands of Tenerife, La Gomera, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and an orange warning for Gran Canaria due to the high temperatures that will be recorded throughout the day.
According to Aement, the heat will be suffocating it will last for several days, being considered the first heat wave of the summer in the Canary Islands.
Monday, June 26
In the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura temperatures will reach 34º C. Very strong gusts in the peaks of La Palma and Tenerife that can exceed 90 km/h.
Little cloudy, with cloudy intervals in low areas of the north.
Calima will be present and will mainly affect the eastern islands and Tenerife, being more significant in the midlands and highlands. Minimum temperatures in slight ascent and maximum in general ascent, being able to become notable in interior areas.
Temperatures will reach 34ºC in the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and 32ºC in the middle of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Tuesday, June 27
Warning in force for maximum temperatures.
Temperatures will reach 34-36º C in inland areas of the eastern islands, Tenerife and La Gomera, and can reach 37º C in Gran Canaria. Probably very strong gusts in the central peaks of Tenerife in the early hours.
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, cloudy intervals will be possible.
Calima will mainly affect the eastern islands and Tenerife. Moderately rising temperatures, especially in inland areas of the islands. Temperatures will rise up to 34-36ºC in the interior of the eastern islands, Tenerife and La Gomera, and even up to 37ºC in Gran Canaria, and locally 32-34ºC in the rest of the islands.
