La Palma eruption: the lava flows advance with 700 m per hour
According to the data provided by the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan), the lava flows from this Sunday's eruption in La Palma advance with a speed of about 700 meters/hour and have a temperature of 1,075 ºC.
Update 1:25 pm - Not likely that the eruption will cause a tsunami
According to José Luis Barrera, an expert volcanologist, the eruption of the volcano in on La Palma could last from one to several weeks, but most likely not more than a month.
The expert in volcanology rules out the possibility that a tsunami will occur if the lava reaches the sea because the volume of lava "is not excessive", this is a strombolian eruption, small in size and at most, it could kill some fish when reaching the ocean, but it will not cause a tsunami.

At the moment there are 2 fissures, 8 eruptive mouths and the lava continues to descend towards the coast. The two fissures are about 200 meters apart and currently, there are eight mouths through which the lava emerges, which has affected a hundred homes on its way to the coast along the El Paso ravine.
The Involcan teams stationed in the area have managed to take thermal images of the lava flows and so they were able to accurately determine that they have a temperature of 1,075 degrees Celsius (1967°F).
Will travel to the other Canary Islands be affected?
At the moment there is no data to indicate that flights to the other Canary Islands would be affected.
ENAIRE, Spain's air navigation manager has recently announced on its Twitter page that air traffic in the Canary islands is currently unaffected by volcano activity.
The eruption could continue for a few weeks
The volcanologist Joan Martí (CSIC) believes that the eruption could continue for weeks, but this could be an advantage as it means that the lava moves slowly, so it does not pose danger to people's lives.
Many homes on La Palma have already been destroyed by the lava flows
Around 5,000 people from the municipalities of El Paso, Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane had to be evacuated last night and the eruption has already destroyed or caused important damages to many houses on La Palma.
Pedro Sánchez, the Spanish PM, who traveled last night to La Palm, had promised to the affected residents that the Government will help compensate the financial losses caused on the island by the eruption.
Fortunately, no one has been injured so far by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano.
