The forest fire in Tenerife has devastated an area of more than 2,600 hectares and has a perimeter of 32 kilometers, affecting the municipalities of Arafo, Candelaria, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, El Rosario and La Orotava.

  • More than 370 troops and 17 air means (helicopters and 3 sea planes) are part of the deployment
  • All accesses to the Teide National Park are closed
  • The INFOCA management remembers to follow the recommendations to avoid exposure to smoke
  • Over 3,000 had to be evacuated from their homes
  • Farm animals and livestock have been relocated to Cabildo farms, with the collaboration of the College of Veterinarians

At the press conference, the authorities present stressed that it is a fire that is evolving in a dynamic way that requires constant vigilance and rethinking of the lines of action, so new evacuations are not ruled out. The fire, which broke out in Arafo and Candelaria, already covers six municipalities after reaching Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, El Rosario and La Orotava, although not all with the same level of damage.

In total, 3,069 people have been evacuated and 3,820 remain confined. There are four shelters set up in the municipalities of Candelaria, Arafo, El Rosario and La Orotava, where 83 people are housed, with pets.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, pointed out that permanent communication is maintained with the tourism sector so that they have all the information related to the evolution of the fire. In addition, follow-up is carried out with Red Eléctrica and Endesa, as well as with those responsible for other basic services, but no incidents have occurred so far.

Authorities in charge also decided to cut the access roads to the Teide National Park from the south through the TF-21 and TF-38 roads, starting at 6 in the afternoon. This measure is added to the one already taken to close the northern access roads, with the aim of avoiding circulation in the area.
