Hiring a car while on holiday in Fuerteventura is a very popular option for many tourists, as you can explore the island at your own pace, stopping along the coast and exploring various beaches, as well as visiting the inland and beautiful places like Betancuria.
You can expect to pay around £124.47 (€139.85) per week for a small car (Class A), but of course, the price depends on how far ahead you make your reservation and the time of year when you are traveling (it will be more expensive generally during the winter months when it's high season in the Canaries).
Of course, this is not an exhaustive list.
There are more reliable and trustworthy car hire companies in Fuerteventura, but we can only recommend the ones we've hired from personally throughout the years.
We have no affiliation with any of these companies, and this is not a paid recommendation, we always booked and paid for our car hire, so the recommendation is based on our personal experience.
Out of all companies listed here, we usually prefer Autoreisen, as we found to get the best price-quality ratio with them.
No payment is asked at the time of booking. We only paid at the time when we collected the car from the airport.
One thing to note regarding Cicar: during busy periods, like school holidays, there's usually a queue and sometimes the waiting time can be up to 2 hours to pick up your car.
Here are a few tips and ideas to consider before hiring a car in Fuerteventura:
Major international car rental agencies such as Avis, Hertz, Europcar, and Budget have offices at the Fuerteventura Airport, but we recommend that you go for one of the local companies, as they usually have better prices, more options when it comes to car choices and you'll also support the local economy.
It is better to book your hire car in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons or holidays, to ensure availability and secure better prices. You can also get a car when you're already on the island or in the resort, but it is usually more expensive and you will not have as many options.
If you book online, it is usually best to pick up the car straight from the airport, when you arrive. This way, you'll save the taxi money and depending on where you're staying, it will save you a lot of money, as a round trip to the airport can be quite expensive, over 100 Euros if you're staying in Corralejo for example.
To rent a car in Fuerteventura, you must have a valid driving license and you need to bring it with you, as a copy will not be accepted. Most companies
Most car hire companies don't require you to leave a deposit, at least not the ones that we recommend in this article, which we have personally tried and have hired cars from them. What you pay is the final price, with everything included and no extras.
Most car rental companies in Fuerteventura have a minimum age requirement, which is typically 21 years old. But there are companies, like Autoreisen for example, that don't rent vehicles to drivers under 23 years of age, so make sure to check the conditions at the hire company you choose in case you're a young driver.

Additional driver
Most car hire companies in Fuerteventura will add a second driver for FREE, which is always a plus to have an additional driver.
Insurance
All compulsory insurance is usually included in the hire price, which means collision damage waiver (CDW), car theft (TP), personal accident insurance (PAI) and third-party damage. However, damage to tires and rims, police fines, loss or damage to keys and using the incorrect fuel are not included.
Fuel Policy
Rental cars in Fuerteventura usually operate on a "full-to-full" fuel policy. This means you receive the car with a full tank of fuel and are expected to return it with a full tank, so this means that car hire companies in Fuerteventura don't try to make a profit from fuel.
Renting a car in Fuerteventura gives you the freedom to explore the island's stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, and charming towns at your own pace. Must-visit attractions include Corralejo Natural Park, El Cotillo, Betancuria (the island's former capital), Ajuy and the beautiful beaches in the Jandia Peninsula.
Remember to always adhere to local traffic laws, drive safely, and enjoy your exploration of Fuerteventura!
