no more masks spain

As it was previously announced, today, April 19, is the reunion where it will officially be established that masks will stop being mandatory in indoor spaces in Spain.

The Council of Ministers is going to approve a Royal Decree by which the use of masks will no longer be mandatory indoors. This means that the rule will go into effect from the following day, Wednesday, April 20, when it will be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

Masks will remain mandatory in Spain in a few places and cases:

  • when using public transport (including airplanes, trains or cable transport and in buses, as well as during public passenger transport.)
  • in hospitals and retirement homes, both for workers and visitors and for people admitted when they are sharing common spaces outside their room

Masks will continue to be recommended (but not mandatory) in closed spaces like supermarkets, shopping malls, cinemas, theaters, concert halls and museums and other closed spaces where proper ventilation is not possible at all times.
