Storm Oscar, as it is now named by Aemet, Spain's Meteorology Agency, will leave intense rains and winds in the Canary Islands, mainly in the western islands.

Widespread, persistent and locally strong or very strong rains are forecasted starting from early Tuesday morning, although these will be less intense and frequent on the easternmost islands like Fuerteventura and Lanzarote . The rain ans wind will also with be accompanied by storms.

The interaction of the southwest wind with the orography of the islands will cause  the rainfall to affect mainly the mountainous islands like La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, El Hierro and La Gomera.

In addition, strong winds are expected in the western islands, with very strong generalized gusts of 70 km/h and more localized gusts of 90 km/h. Storm Óscar is actually a succession of small lows in subtropical latitudes within the great storm, with its associated fronts and high moisture content, moving northward on Tuesday, remaining on the peninsula and the Balearic Islands for several days, possibly even over the weekend.

In any case, as Aemet points out, its effects on the peninsula and Balearics will be more limited than in the Canary Islands and will consist mainly of fairly widespread rains, starting on Wednesday.
