According to a statement by the President of the Government of Canary Islands, in an interview for Radio Marca Tenerife, this week there will be no changes in alert levels in the aechipelago.

This means that currently, the alert levels in the Canary Islands are the following:

  • Level 1: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro
  • Level 2: Fuerteventura, Lanzarote
  • Level 3:
  • Level 4:  -

UPDATE: The information is also confirmed by the official announcement made by the Ministry of Health.

Although the number of new cases is still on the rise in the Canary Islands, as well as in the whole of Spain, it seems like for the moment there will be no changes in alert levels, so the current levels are to be maintained for the following week.

In the entire territory of the Canary Islands Community, between November 16 and November 22, 1,696 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, which represents an increase of around 34% in the daily average of new cases in relation to the week above, in which 1,270 cases were registered.

The greatest increase in the number of new cases is observed on the island of Gran Canaria, although in general, the trend has been similar for all the islands during the last 15 days.

Evolution in Tenerife and Gran Canaria

According to the Ministry of Health, the community transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the Archipelago is increasing across all the islands, with the exception of La Gomera and El Hierro. Although the increase is rapid, for the moment the pressure on hospitals does not seem to exceed the health system's capacities, which is why Gran Canaria and Tenerife are still maintained at alert level 1 for another week.
