RIU Hotels & Resorts, the hotel chain that manages the Oliva Beach Resort hotel in Corralejo (Fuerteventura), has announced that it will resort to “all legal means” to avoid the demolition of their hotel, as ordered by the Ministry of Ecological Transition last Tuesday.
The Ministry of Ecological Transition (Miteco) has officially declared the “expiration of the concession” of the RIU Oliva Beach Resort hotel and apartment complex, located on land in the public maritime-terrestrial domain and in a protected space such as the Corralejo Natural Park —Corralejo dunes—, in the north of Fuerteventura.
The commission headed by Teresa Ribera has ordered, through a resolution issued last Tuesday and signed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, “the lifting and removal of existing facilities.” This implies, de facto, the demolition of the complex managed by RIU Hotels & Resorts, which, it should be remembered, filed a complaint against several senior officials, accusing them of having carried out “overt persecution” against the company.
RIU assures that they will continue defending their rights and legitimate interests, as well as those of their workers, "until the end", resorting to "all legal avenues" within their reach.
