Cabildo de Gran Canaria announced that a wildfire was detected today in Gran Canaria in the area of Cortijo de Huertas, within the municipality of Tejeda, which has already reached the fence that delimits the facilities of the EVA 21 Aerial Surveillance Squadron of Pico de Las Nieves.
At the moment, the hydrants from the barracks are working to try to keep the flames from entering inside.
The smoke column can be seen from various points on the island, as images posted from Telde or even from the south of the island show.
The GES helicopter of the Government of the Canary Islands based in GranCanaria participates in the extinguishing operations. Two other GES helicopters from La Palma and El Hierro are already on their way to Gran Canaria.
