What are the best tours and excursions to book in Tenerife?

Tenerife, the most visited island in the Canary Islands archipelago, offers a wide range of excursions and activities for visitors.

From visiting the mighty Teide volcano to boat tours where you can see dolphins and sometimes even whales, Tenerife is an island with plenty of activities to suit all types of tourists.

Best excursions and tours in Tenerife

Teide National Park

Explore the stunning Teide National Park, home to Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak. You can take a cable car to the summit for breathtaking views of the island and the surrounding ocean.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Going on a boat trip during your stay in Tenerife is one of the best activities that you can do and if you're lucky you'll be able to spot whales and dolphins in the waters around the island.

Siam Park

For water enthusiasts, Siam Park is a must-visit. It's a water park with a Thai-inspired design and architecture, featuring thrilling water slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool.

Siam Park has been named the best water park in the world for several years in a row now.

Loro Parque

Loro Parque is a popular zoo and animal park, located in Puerto de la Cruz, home to a diverse range of animals, including parrots, dolphins, sea lions, and orcas.

If you're staying in the south of Tenerife take into consideration that the journey to reach Puerto de la Cruz takes around 1 - 1,5 hours each way, so it will be a full day trip to visit Loro Parque, but in our opinion, it's worth it and we've visited several times over the years.

Masca Valley

Take a trip to Masca, a picturesque village nestled in a stunning valley. The journey itself offers breathtaking views, and once in Masca, you can explore the village and its surroundings.

The drive there is not for the faint of heart, so if you're a nervous driver you should better book a tour, sit back on the bus and simply enjoy the view of Masca valley.

Stargazing Excursions

Due to its clear skies and minimal light pollution, Tenerife is an excellent location for stargazing. Join a night excursion to Teide or other designated spots for a celestial experience.

We've been on a tour with Teide by Night and it was an amazing experience, we watched the sunset while sipping on a glass of champagne, followed by a nice dinner and then the unique stargazing experience under the clear Tenerife sky -  you can our full review of Teide by Night tour if you're interested in booking.

Quad Biking or Jeep Safaris

For those seeking a more adventurous experience, consider quad biking or jeep safaris to explore Tenerife's diverse landscapes.

Remember to check the availability and seasonal variations of these excursions, as some activities may be weather-dependent or have specific operating periods.

What are the best excursions for first-time visitors to Tenerife?

Top 3 tours and activities to book if visiting Tenerife for the first time: Siam Park, Mt Teide tour, and a dolphin & whale watching boat trip.

If it's your first time visiting Tenerife then we recommend that you book a tour to go and see Mt Teide, which is the highest peak in Spain, not just in the Canary Islands.

Siam Park is also one of the MUSTs in Tenerife and it's a fun day for the entire family, but be advised that it's extremely busy, especially during school holidays, so we recommend that you also get a fast pass if you're visiting at a busy time.

Boat trips are also popular and a fun way to spend a few hours, looking out for dolphins and whales, as Tenerife is among the top places in the world for seeing whales (in the space between La Gomera and Tenerife).

These three tours and activities will get you the chance to see a bit of what Tenerife has to offer since it's such a diverse and beautiful island with lots of activities for repeat visitors, so you'll still have plenty of places to see if you decide to retund (and most people will want to return after getting the "Tenerife bug").
