In 2022, the International Kite Festival in Fuerteventura will celebrate its 35th edition since it first launched in 1987. The event has started more than 30 years ago and it was simply a gathering put together by people who were passionate about kite flying and since then it has grown with each edition, into the internationally recognized event that it is now.
Nearly 200 kites will fill the sky of the municipality of La Oliva for yet another year from November 7 to 13 during the 35th edition of the International Kite Festival. As a novelty, the location of the festival has been moved to the area near the Oliva Beach hotel.
Although the previous editions usually took place on El Dormidero Beach for most of the days of the event, this year the festival will move to the vicinity of the Oliva Beach hotel, on the sands of Bajo Negro beach.
According to current planning, the beach area immediately following the Hotel Riu Oliva Beach is expected to serve as the main location of the organizational tents of the event, as well as for the workshops, activities and other necessary services for the participants in the kite festival. The proximity of this space to an urban area allows the facilitation of services, generating the minimum environmental impact.
So this means that in 2022, Bajo Negro beach will serve as the esplanade for professional and amateur kite enthusiasts who are coming from all corners of Spain, as well as from all over Europe and from various foreign countries to enjoy Corralejo Kite Festival.
Corralejo Kite Festival is an international festival that already has a base of loyal fans and the event has gained enough international recognition to be considered among the most acclaimed kite festivals of its type in the world.
The event is aimed to attract both amateurs and professional kite pilots, so if you are passionate about kite flying this is the place to be.
"What began as an amateur meeting in 1987 is now recognized as one of the most important international events in Europe of its kind, and one of the most important in the world if we also consider the beauty of the locations offered by the Dunes Natural Park Corralejo and the beaches of El Cotillo", added the Councilor for Tourism, Celino Umpiérrez.
Also, if you happen to be on holiday in Corralejo at that time (or anywhere else on the island for that matter) it is worth it to come and see the amazing kites flying over the sand dunes, with the Lobos Island and the turquoise water in the backdrop.
In the last years, the Kite Festival in Corralejo - Fuerteventura has attracted a lot of attention from the Spanish press and international as well, so participants gather from numerous countries to take part in this colorful event.
