According to the authorities, the wildfire in Gran Canaria currently affects over 280 hectares, but it is close to being stabilized after all the work done last night and this morning.
Update at 12:03 p.m. - July 26th, 2023 | from Cabildo de Gran Canaria
The current situation of the wildfire by sectors:
As reported by the Guardia Civil in a statement, the wildfire was caused by the imprudence of a worker with a brush cutter. The man works for a private company that carries out forestry work for the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and three operators were working together at the time in the area.
The evolution of the fire is moving towards stabilization according to the prediction announced by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, as all the work done during the night led to containing the advance of the flames during the early hours of this Tuesday.
The fire has already burned 285 hectares of pine forest as it progresses across the peaks, heading east, pushed by the high-altitude westerly wind that blew, fortunately not too strongly, during the afternoon.
The prevailing low humidity of around 20% did not help control the fire, but the fact that the temperatures were not high prevented the flames from spreading further.
