According to a report from the Government of the Canary Islands, eight people have been injured in an accident that occurred this Thursday on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen, in the town of Corralejo, in Fuerteventura, when a vehicle crashed into the terrace of a bar.
According to an assessment by the authorities, among the victims of the accidents were two minors: a 4-month-old girl who was transferred in a medicalized helicopter from the Maternal and Child University Hospital of the Canary Islands in Gran Canaria, and a 5-year-old girl who, at the initial moment of assistance, presented various moderate injuries, transferred to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.
Five of the victims are in serious condition, including the four-month-old baby and an 18-year-old woman who was also transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Gran Canaria.
The other victims, two women and three men, between the ages of 40 and 50, are all being treated at the General Hospital of Fuerteventura in Puerto del Rosario
The mayor of the La Oliva City Council, Isaí Blanco, expressed his deep dismay at the incident and declared that “our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic event. We are working closely with the relevant authorities to clarify what happened and provide support to the victims and their families at this difficult time."
For now, the reason why the vehicle crashed into the terrace remains unknown, although there are various speculations regarding a possible heart attack in the case of the driver, but this theory remains unconfirmed by the authorities.
